A soldier's view from the battlefield

June 28th, 2009 | | Permalink

A new week, a new update. Today we would like to show you a few more things from our upcoming 0.2 release. But first, we would like to talk about some other things. As some of you might have noticed, we have updated our website alot recently.

One of the new things is, we have been fiddling around with twitter, and thought it was a good idea to give our fans some real-time updates about just everything that is going on behind the scenes. You can either find the latest two updates on the upper right corner of our website, or directly see all of them on our twitter page, which can be found at twitter.com/usimod. But now for the real news.

After the three new maps we showed off in the next update, we have made some changes to some of our older maps and would like to share them with you. This week we want to show you the first one of it, Ad Dawrah Oilfields. Our mapping guru, [EoD]Junglist, has put some love into this map and it turned out quite well. To serve the infantry lovers out there, we now have some small villages and more cover to hide from the big boy’s toys. But let the pictures speak for themselves.

Off to the next one. As promised earlier, we would now like to show you screenshots of our new brand new HUDs for the A10, the F16, J7, Su25 and the BRDM2. Nothing to add here, just take a look and tell us what you think.

And that’s it for this week’s update. Expect something really dark for the next update!

War breaks out in three new locations

June 21st, 2009 | | Permalink

After about a month of no updates, it’s time for a new one. We have been working hard over the past few weeks. In fact, there have been made so many changes that we decided that the name of the new release now officially is 0.2 instead of 0.18! The problem with bugfixes is, that you can not really show them with screenshots. So what should we show you? Well, we could show you some screenshots of the upcoming (and work in progress) maps for 0.2.

First off, we have taken an existing map and converted it for use in USI. It was made by imtheheadhunter from BFSP and now has found its way to USI, where [EoD]Junglist has made it compatible and changed a few details. But enough speaking, have fun with the images we have prepared for you.

The next map we would like to show you does not have a name yet, but Junglist temporarily has named it Weapon Facility. This is a new thing for us, as it will be our first woodland map! The map is set in the green woodlands of northern iraq, where the iraqi army has a big storage with alot of ordnance. Inserted by UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, the US troops have to advance to the facility and gain control over it. For this, we have given them a few M1A1 Abrams tanks, M2A2 Bradley IFVs and different light vehicles such as Humvees.

Map number three also does not have a name yet, but that won’t stop us from presenting it here! It was made by TrueSpirit, who originally came from XWW2 and joined us as a voluntary developer. The map consists of pure urban fight between US and iraqi forces. With some custom static objects added and recolored textures of original objects, the map adds a whole new feel to the battlefield.

*hint* Some of you might have spotted something cool on our website/forums. If not, either go look for it or wait until we post more info in a future update.  And that’s about it for today! Next time we want to show you the new Huds for the A10, the F16, J7, Su25, BRDM2 and some other nice things. We are looking forward to show you guys even more progress in the near future, so make sure you visit this site more frequently from now on.
